O.K. so Callie yells to me from her bedroom, "Mom, I'm jealous!" Confused, I call her in to the bedroom and we have a conversation about her feelings of jealousy. I'm thinkin' that she has no idea what she just said. Turns out, I was right. Our conversation went something similar to this.
"Callie, come here please. Why are you jealous?"
"I just am, mom."
"What are you feeling right now?"
She looks at me with just the most pitiful brown eyes and says, "I have been very bad and rude today."
She was right. This was not a good day for her. I could tell that she was feeling bad and I did not want to make her feel any worse by telling her that she was wrong and she was not feeling jealous, but guilty. I opt not to add more despair to her already burdened soul.
"Do you think that it would help to tell Brandon and Courtney that you are sorry for being bad and rude today."
She nodded in affirmation and with a little bit of relief.
She ran into Brandon's bedroom where she found Brandon and Courtney and apologized to them for being bad and rude. They were so great and told her that it was o.k.
Just moments later, she came back to me and apologized to me. I gave her a hug and a kiss on the nose and thanked her for being a big girl and aplogizing.
We had a really great day with her the rest of the day.
KIDS ARE SO GREAT!!!!
